A hotel cleaner, Sylvester Ahuja, has been arrested by Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly defrauding a company of N2m.

According to Punch Metro, ahe 30-year-old was allegedly attempting to defraud the firm of another N500m when he was arrested in a hotel in Warri, Delta State.

According to the police, the suspect had in April 2017 hacked into the company’s email address, posing as its managing director.

He reportedly instructed the firm’s accountant to transfer N2m into his Access Bank account, which was done before the fraud was uncovered.

The police said Ahuja again used the same approach in June 2017, requesting the payment of N500m into a Zenith Bank account.

The firm was said to have alerted the police, who swooped on the suspect in 911 Hotel, Warri.

“The RRS team, in its investigations, discovered that the initial N2m was withdrawn  with a debit card belonging to the suspect, Sylvester Ahuja,” a source in the police said.

However, the suspect, in his statement to the RRS officers, denied the allegations, saying his friend, a member of the National Youth Service Corps, called Emmanuel, was the culprit.

He explained that he met Emmanuel at his workplace in April 2017.

He said, “Emmanuel served in Warri and he told me sometime in April 2017 that he was stranded and that somebody was going to send money to him. He requested that I allow him use my ATM card because he couldn’t locate his. I released it to him with my PIN. He said I should alert him whenever I received credit alert on my phone and I did.

“I expected the transactions to have been completed after two days. After almost a week, I saw him and requested my ATM card; he told me he was still using it. Afterwards, I asked him again and he told me that he had misplaced it. He didn’t return the debit card again.

“After my salary was paid, I approached my bank for cash. That was when I was told that my account had issues. It was at that time that I got to know that my account was used for a fraudulent transaction. Since the incident, I have not been able to trace Emmanuel. When I tried to find him, I was informed that he was out of Warri.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said investigations were ongoing into the incident, adding that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for further investigations.

The attention of 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, has been drawn to fictitious news going round especially on the social media that troops have invaded the home of Nnamdi Kanu and killed 3 persons.
This is far from the truth. Rather, it was a group of suspected IPOB militants that blocked the road against troops of 145 Battalion while on show of force along FMC-Word Bank Road in Umuahia town, Abia State at about 6.00-6.30pm, today. They insisted that the military vehicles would not pass and started pelting the soldiers with stones and broken bottles to the point of injuring an innocent female passerby and a soldier, Corporal Kolawole Mathew.
The troops fired warning shots in the air and the hoodlooms dispersed. No life was lost.
Therefore the public are kindly enjoined to disregard the rumours going round and the fictitious photographs of purported victims of attack. Both the soldier and the innocent female passerby have been evacuated to the unit's Medical Inspection Room and are receiving treatment.
We would like to use this opportunity to warn mischief makers threatening the peace and security of the country through falsehood such as above.
Members of the public are please requested to go about their lawful business and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or security outfit.
You are please requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium.

A 38-year-old mother, Kwaseve Fagal, has shocked many people after revealing that she killed her newborn son without giving the act a second thought because she desired to become wealthy overnight.

Mrs Fagal, who hails from Gakerko village, Keana Local Government area of Nassarawa State said she was prompted to execute the act due to her husband's inability to overcome poverty.

According to her, rather than get reprieve through their toils, the situation worsened to a point that putting food on the table became a difficult task. Sometimes, according to her, the family stayed for days without food, and she slipped into emotional despair.

She stated this while been paraded at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Nasarawa State police command.

Mrs Fagal said: “Life became very difficult for my husband and I, to a point that having food daily became a problem, not to talk of catering for the two children we already had.

“The kids were not feeding well; we go hungry for days because we don’t have money to buy food.

“Though we are farmers, things didn’t just work well for us. That was why when a herbalist in our community, Alhaji Abass Loko, who hails from Kaduna State approached me with an offer to lift the burden of abject poverty, I gladly accepted.

“I was six months pregnant when he offered me help, I grabbed it pleasantly, even though the price was my unborn baby.”

Police Commissioner in the state, Abubakar Sadiq-Bello, said “On August 14, 2017, the housewife who had nursed a full-term pregnancy, was delivered of a baby boy in her home at, but the joy of her husband, Paul Fagal, aged 40, evaporated shortly after.

“Though the couple, peasant farmers, earlier had two children in their 14 years of marriage, the arrival of the new baby lifted the drowning soul of his father who had been toiling over the years, albeit with difficulty, to fend for his family.

“Unknown to Paul, his wife had been suffocating as they laboured for survival in their years of wedlock and was waiting on the devil for help.

“Acting on the instruction of a herbalist, she discreetly took the infant to a secluded area of the community shortly after birth and killed him. Then, she took his blood in a clay pot and dumped the remains in a nearby stream.

“But the bubble burst as the sudden disappearance of the baby aroused apprehension in the community, amid suspicion that the mother from hell might have committed sacrilege.

“After summoning all the women in the community for interrogation, a threat by the village head, Mathew Oloko, to further conduct orthodox and traditional probe into the incident, unveiled Kwaseve as the perpetrator of the dastardly act.

“She eventually led a search party to a stream where the decomposed body of the baby was recovered, but kept sealed lips on the motive for the act till she was arrested and taken away by the police.”

I Gladly Killed My Baby To Become Rich Overnight - Nigerian Woman From Nasarawa Confesses

Abia State Police Commissioner, Adeleye Oyebade, said on Saturday a least six policemen would be prosecuted for negligence of duty.

The six policemen have been dismissed from the force after they were found guilty for negligence of duty during an orderly rom trial.

Explaing what led to cops’ orderly room trial, the police commissioner said the dismissed men allowed some suspects to escape from custody of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department (SCIID) in Umuahia, the state capital.

He added that three suspects – Kingsley Anyim,Chijioke Chukwu and Emeka Ukaegbu – have been rearrested with the firearms which they made away with during their escape.

He said efforts were ongoing to recover one of the AK47 rifles which the suspects took away.

Oyebade said the policemen would soon be arraigned in court.

The CP said: “On September 2, at about 0130hrs some suspects in the anti- kidnapping section (D7) of the SCIID Umuahia cell escaped from the detention facility.

“The suspects made away with two AK47 rifles kept outside the armoury for quick response to emergencies, to facilitate their escape.

“The inmates conceived the escape and nurtured it into fruition due to the negligence/absence from duty of the policemen scheduled for duty on that fateful day.

“While all the officers involved in the act of negligence/absence from duty have all been taken through the Force approved disciplinary action and dismissed from the Force, the officers will soon be prosecuted.”

See Why Nigerian Police Sacked Six Officers

The circumstances that led to the unfortunate stabbing to death of a woman by her lover in Ebonyi state have been revealed.

Details have emerged after the tragic death of 25-year-old Cynthia Nwafi, who was killed by her fiancé, Friday Njoku, 30, who then committed suicide after committing the crime. The incident happened on Friday, September 1, 2017, in Aguogboriga axis of Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

In a report by Sunday Sun, it has been revealed that the death might not be unrelated to an event that happened in the past in which the lady in question allegedly swindled three suitors.

Sunday Sun learnt from a member of the local vigilance group that helped to convey Cynthia to the hospital before she died that she had been allegedly warned by some neighbours about her alleged inordinate relationship with men. They told a story of how she allegedly dumped her first fiancé who paid for her shop and bought some electronic devices.

“That girl had already disappointed the first man who wanted to marry her. It was that first man that paid for the container (shop) where she was sewing clothes and bought her a 20inch foam mattress, electronics and other home appliances.

“She was about dumping this one that killed her (Njoku) for a man who works in the National Obstetrics Fistula Centre, Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki. In fact, I learnt that Njoku had warned that one to leave his girlfriend alone, saying that he had already taken palm wine to her family,” the vigilante told Sunday Sun.

“The first man, in anger, told her that she would dump another man in the same manner. She actually dumped that first man for this man that killed her. That man working in the hospital is very lucky. He could have been the one that Friday would have killed,” he narrated.

“The two of them quarrelled earlier in the day. Njoku swore to her that nobody else would marry her apart from himself. I learnt that the girl replied him that he was not serious. We learnt that the guy had met with her family, to declare his interest.

“On Wednesday, we learnt that Njoku and the hospital guy exchanged words. Njoku reportedly told him to steer clear off his fiancé. Then, on Thursday night, the guy killed both the girl and himself. We did further investigation and learnt that her landlord had warned her about Njoku, who he felt had a weird character,” the vigilante said.

According to a close source, the two lovebirds had been in a relationship for quite a time. Njoku was said to have taken wine to the parents and relatives of his girlfriend to indicate his intention to marry her and was accepted by Cynthia’s family. He was making arrangements to walk her down the aisle before the tragedy happened.

Sunday Sun gathered that Njoku, a day before killing his lover had accosted her parents and accused Cynthia of infidelity.

The Cynthia’s family denied the allegation that their daughter was unfaithful to her lover. Although they admitted that the late Njoku had made known his intention to marry Cynthia, their marriage had not been sealed, hence, he had no moral justification to lay claims to her.

Cynthia’s elder brother, Meshark Offia, who debunked the allegation of infidelity queried: “How could Friday say my sister was unfaithful when they were not living together, they were not legally married?”

Narrating what transpired, Offia said: “Around 1 O’Clock in the night, I got information that one Friday Njoku from Ebonyi Local Government Area stabbed my sister to death. I went to the state police headquarters, Abakaliki and reported the matter. I learnt that the assailant killed himself after stabbing my sister to death. I also went to the mortuary and saw his corpse. Friday Njoku was my sister’s fiancé. He had not actually concluded the marriage rites but he had brought drinks for us and the family accepted him, the girl also accepted him.

“The girl was living in her house and Friday was also living in his house. They had not been joined together as the tradition demands but we were all aware that Friday was Cynthia’s fiancé though he had not paid her bride price. Friday was a motorcycle operator; my sister a fashion designer.

“My sister and Friday were in good terms. Even, Friday came to my house a day before he killed my sister. How could Friday say my sister was unfaithful when they were not living together, they were not legally married?”Meshark added.

Recall that Njoku after stabbing Cynthia fatally, subsequently committed suicide in his house. He was said to have drank a poisonous substance.

On the fateful day, he stormed the residence of his lover located on No. 5 Amachi Street, along Odunukwe Street and stabbed her all over the body with a knife before bolting away.

Some of the neighbours who spoke with Sunday Sun on condition of anonymity said Cynthia was cooking late in the night while also handling some other domestic chores when her lover arrived at her residence.

The seamstress who had no premonition of the impending doom, opened the door to receive her boyfriend. She was said to have returned to the kitchen when Njoku came from behind and stabbed her on her chest and other parts of her body severally and ran away leaving her in the pool of her blood.

One of Cynthia’s neighbours, a lady, who mustered courage to rush to her aid, Sunday Sun learnt, was also attacked by the assailant. She was said to have hastily ran back to her apartment with a knife cut on her hand.

Vigilance officers (names withheld) in the area told Sunday Sun that the victim had raised the alarm, calling on her neighbours to come to her rescue. But given the ungodly hour of the incident, coupled with the light rain showers, the neighbours who were apparently eavesdropping on the rowdy scene from their apartments did nothing to help her.

Apparently with the last drop of energy left in her, Cynthia stood up from the pool of her blood and staggered to the gate of one of her neighbour, banging and calling out for help.

The security men said it was at that point that their team arrived at the scene and took her to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

He said that the assailant absconded with Cynthia’s mobile phones.

“We went to her shop and copied her phone number. When we put a call to it, her attacker picked and said that it was a wrong number. From the way he was breathing, we knew he was running.

“When we pressed further, he admitted to holding her phone but said that she was not around and cut the phone call,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Loveth Odah, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, confirmed the death of the two lovebirds. She said that investigation was still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
